Lectionary Group

The Revised Common Lectionary is a 3 year cycle of scriptures used by many Protestant churches to give sequence and shape to preaching and teaching.  Each Sunday offers 4 passages: 1 each from the Old Testament, Psalm, Epistle, and Gospel. There is often a common theme running through the passages.

The Lectionary also respects the special church seasons of the year:  Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost.

We have a weekly Lectionary Study to read these scriptures together, learn what they may have meant in their original context and discuss how they apply in our present day.  The group brings a variety of backgrounds and questions to the table.  This lays groundwork for Marcia’s sermon preparation and helps clarify the transforming power of the scripture for our lives, our church, and our culture.

The Lectionary group meets at 6 pm on Wednesday during the summer and at 7 pm following choir practice during the school year.  Everyone is welcome.
